File this under "Yes, I know it's pricey, but I just HAD to have it!" I already have several examples of R5b with major double transfer (T5), but this is the first one I have ever seen where the R5b is imperforate vertically rather than horizontally. As with all of the pert perforates that can be found imperforate in both directions, the examples that are imperforate vertically are far more scarce than the examples imperforate horizontally. Add to that the fact that it is used with a Californaia state revenue on a piece of a Wells Fargo document, and it's just a superb aesthetic piece (in my opinion). Given the comparatively unique combination of attributes, I was quite happy to pay the elevated price.

Very interesting. You are collecting at a level that is so beyond my knowledge that I feel dumb when I read your posts. But me like the pictures KirkS |

I was looking at the stamp and thinking, "Where is the double impress . . oh, wow!"
I agree that piece is quite attractive. |

That's a real beauty revenue and I can well understand why you had to have it.

I believe the California stamp is DX 88 in the State Revenue Society catalog. I could very well be wrong, though. These are not one of my specialties. California state tax stamps date back to 1857 and have a pretty interesting (and convoluted) early history. More info available in the SRS catalog.
Wicked double transfer, revenuecollector! |
