Hello everyone! When I was younger I was really into stamp collecting but have since stopped. Just had different interests as I got older. I just moved and in the process found some of my old stamps. There was this one I'll share here that I always wondered about but never really checked out. Its probably common but I thought it looked similar to that famous "One Penny" stamp with the woman's profile on front. Anyways, I'd greatly appreciate any of your input on this stamp. Thanks!

Aclamonica - What you have there is a stamp from Great Britain bearing a bust of Queen Victoria, commonly referred to as a "Penny Red".
These were printed from numerous plates, most of which are common, although there are a few better ones. I cannot see the plate number with the scan detail that you have provided, but if you turn the stamp sideways, you should be able to see a two or three digit number in the scrollwork at the sides. Sometimes, it is easier to see with a magnifying glass.
I would not hold out too much hope, though. Given the condition (missing corner and poor centering) the value of this stamp is likely to be negligible unless it turns out to be one of the better plates.
Hope that helps. |

Thanks gussboy1 and OttawaMike! I really appreciate the welcome and the information about the stamp! I wasn't able to locate a plate number on the stamp though. Maybe I will post some of the others I have when I have time. |

Welcome to the stamp community, Aclamonica! Early stamps with Queen Victoria's portrait are great classic issues that really enhance a collection. We are lucky that many are still very affordable. |

Welcome There are quite possibly more varieties of this stamp than any other ever released. The plate number is just the beginning. There are 154 different plates. The letters on the corners of the stamp will identify the location on the plate. there are 240 stamps to a plate making a total of 36,960 varieties. If the letter in the upper right id a "j" then the stamp you have is from the eleventh row down from the top and the tenth stamp from the left edge.
