Going through a big lot of revs and just stuffing a stock book for now these couple caught my eye. The grill is probably some sort of cancel but I'm curious on the laid paper. Of course its in rough shape but stood out none the less. Any opinions or info greatly appreciated. The laid lines show up much better in hand. We can only wish all grills were as sharp as this is!

Yes, the "grill" is a physical (defacing) cancellation; I've heard them called a "corrugator," but seldom see the term nowadays.

Checks and other financial paper often had these kinds of roller "cancels" on the amount and signature of those types of documents. If the stamps happened to be in the vicinity of those areas of the document, they got roller cancelled too. They are a kind of "cut cancel" and lower the value of the stamps in question.

Thats what I figured for the grill type issue, there were a few others with more diamond shape roller grid cancels.
While I'm asking about papers- on issues with silk paper does the bluish paper have any +/- . In this lot were about 40 or so 2cent all with silk fibers but maybe 4-5 of them had a really bluish paper.

I have a couple of examples on what appears to be laid paper. From what I've been able to determine, the jury is still out on whether it's legitimately laid paper or not. Scott mentions nothing about it. There's a passing reference in Richard Friedberg's book.

On the whole it doesn't appear to be something that there's a whole lot of interest in or demand for, but I haven't stumbled upon any comprehensive article on it, but my TAR library is far from complete.
