I collect postmarks and air postal history of Texas. I look at the Postmark Pursuit column in Linn's, and look for airmail-themed postmarks from Texas. A few weeks ago I found one.
I get the postmarks on older air postal cards from the U.S.P.S. The latest crop from the early 1980's have a face-value of 28¢; one cent more than the current domestic post card-rate. (If anyone has more to sell, I'll take them.) Anyhoot, I took a no. 10 envelope, and addressed it to the Postmaster for the post office with the fancy cancel. Inside, I put a no. 8 letter with 72¢ U.S. postage, addressed to me, so I can get the postal card back, and then I place the postal card in the no. 8 envelope, along with a nice little note.
To-day I opened my letter box, and inside was my no 8. envelope, nicely cancelled with the comemmorative postmark, with my neatly cancelled postal card (for my collection) inside. The outer envelope, used to return the postal card, was cancelled with the postmark, and then placed inside a big glassine envelope, so as it would not get damaged in transit.
FABULOUS SERVICE!
Thank-you, America!
