Hi,

I am trying to ID this label however I am unable to find any information on the item. I believe is could be form the 1940s.

Is the label collectable, common, and does it have a scott number?

Is the label collectible? Yes.

Is it common? I don't really know. The article shown below suggests that they aren't all that common, because most on-piece examples were discarded upon delivery.

Is it listed in the Scott catalog and does it have a Scott number? No. It's beyond the scope of the catalog listings, as it really comes under the topic of "ephemera" just as would airmail etiquettes or any other postal labels.

Checkout "Figure 4" on page 2 at this link for an example of your label in postal use, applied November 28, 1932, which should at least help you date the piece:

As suggested in the above article, the Postal Label Study Group may be able to help you with further questions, however, I don't believe they have yet to catalog all of the various label examples. (By the way, see Image S-13 at this link for another variety of your label. It's similar, but uses the postal zone New York 1, N.Y. in the second line):

And printed by GPO = Government Printing Office, not a local printer.
