I was just browsing ebay and run across a C13 for sale now @ $50.00 and it's described as legitimate but I have my doubts. All the photos of it are done with a fish-eye lens or one similar that distorts the image too much to be of much help and the perforations look like someone deliberately made them and don't look at all natural. It's also adhered to a small scrap of paper so you can't see the back. I think it's a facsimile and someone tried to make it look more like a real one. I could be wrong but I doubt it. Have a look. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Graf-Zeppel...em2576abef8a

Yeah... those perfs look like they were made with hand-held scissors. Not even lined up for depth or any other measure of consistency.
This kind of stuff (also mentioned in several other 'fraud alert' threads lately) just makes me sad. |

Looks like the 'fish eye' images were taken through a microscope. But the perfs do look uneven don't they. It's on piece, but too bad there's no cancel. |

Yes it is on piece, the question is piece of what ? Looks shady to me, almost to the point where I start thinking of someone at a photo copier and pinking shears. |

What gets me is he lists it as genuine but how would he/she/they know? Looks like they sell and buy mostly snap-on tools and junk. I been finding a lot of this stuff on ebay lately..Buyer beware! |

Huh! I just looked at his other two listings. Quite a coincidence that he should have all three of these on pieces of tattered brown wrapping paper (I assume it is) and none of them canceled. What are the odds? |

Souvenir Card #SC-28 had an engraved replica of the 65c Zeppelin as part of its design. See U.S. Scott Specialized Catalog. This is a plausible source for this "stamp," -- first crudely perforated, then stuck on "piece" to conceal the fact that it's on thicker paper (i.e., card stock) than stamp paper.
The other two Zeppelins also appeared on Souvenir Cards, I believe; same theory.
I am not accusing anyone of anything, I am proposing a possible explanation. |

Take a look at the bottom of the white circle surrounding the right side"65c". It has a green horizontal line. My 2 cents worth says it is a forgery. |
