Joe - I fully understand how you feel. When I lived in Texas, I shuddered everytime we were in a tornado warning. I could just see all of my stamps becoming air mail stamps. |

Jubilee, check out the camera on the Statue of Liberty which shows the lower end of Manhattan, and part of the harbor. I checked it this morning and you could hear the pounding rain and the howling wind. |

Joe you mentioned you are 147 feet above sea level there where you are at..I recall the weather folks saying that the higher up you are the stronger the winds certainly will be,,think they said 20-30 mph more than at ground level...they said folks who have decided to stay in the high rise building will probally feel the structure they are in swaying from the winds..stay away from your windows if they are not boarded up,,other things I can think of off hand are make sure you are stocked with ALOT of water..fill up everything you can think of with good clean drinking water just in case pipes get broken and become unable to dink the water supply...have plenty of gas for your generator,,and oil.....candles and food,flashlights...and most of all stay out of standing water which may have live power wires in them.Good luck and god bless Joe and everyone else who has to deal with this Obama says hes going to react to this fast so we'll see about that,,he certainly failed big time on the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster...maybe he learned something from doing that..we all pray he did Dave |

Hi dmilkman207
Where are you in Maine? I used to live in Bangor until 1955 and I remember those "Nor'Easters" and went through 2 or 3 hurricanes. Fortunately we were at least 30-40 miles from Bar Harbor.
Good luck to you Joe. Hope everything will come out alright.

You do what you can and move on. I've been through several here in Houston. The stress of it all can drive you nuts. Nothing is more important than taking care of yourself and loved ones. The best of luck to you! |

That massive storm looks to have been full-on.
But it could of been 10x as bad, easy as!
Someone in a High Place is still looking after the USA.
Hope all the stamps made it through the huge tidal serge.
Must be a whole heap of SCF family people that can not tell us what is going on because of the lack of power.
Hope to hear from them soon. |

Best wishes to NY, NJ, and PA. They got it a lot worse than we did this time |

doug2222 mentioned humidity...I just recently built my house, it is very tight and has air conditioning but the a/c quit on me for a couple days at the worst time this summer and I didnt realize it at the time but I had my dining room table covered with stamps (which I usually dont do either as you never know), anyway...yes most of the stamps curled up on me, some severely. There was some loss, obviously they were not sheets of US #117 or the like, haha. It was mostly cinderella stuff, Christmas seals etc...but I had never seen that happen before and never would have thought twice...That is a very good thing to remind people of doug2222... The storm has passed and I hope you are ok... |

Hi everyone all is ok but what a ride, being a weather buff I was watching this carefully, cannot believe the damage. Many trees are down and no one has power Traveled to a relitave who has power and cable.
Thank you all for the advise on protecting the stamps they survived well. I was really nervious with this one, and rightfully so. |

It seems Queens, Lower Manhattan and the barrier islands of New Jersey bore the brunt of the storm with scattered flooding and trees down in other areas. The part of Queens that burnt down was the scariest. The Atlantic City boardwalk is basically gone. It's going to be a very expensive storm in terms of life and property. |

Breezy Point is right on the tip of a peninsula jutting out into the New York Bay; the reason the fire spread so far is because it was flooded very badly and the FDNY could not get to it. Fortunately they were able to rescue everyone and no one was injured or killed. 80 homes burned down though. |

Glad to hear you are ok Joe, I saw pictures of Long Island things did not look good. Hey Jerry B I am Bangor also I did not move here until 1972. We just got the edge of this one, it never got bad at all. I guess down at the coast there was some damage but nothing like NY, New Jersey. |
