i have many older stamps. i have seen some listings of values without gum. can you give me and idea what is that value without gum issues? i will make a list and scans in the next few days.
Dave this one is hard. You can figure anywhere from 25% to 50% down grade in value depending on the stamp. I mean even the catalog prices aren't very good for this one.
Gum (MNH) is all the rage and people are just not paying for non gum stamps. So really the market place and the desire for the stamp will judge the prices.
On a bright note those classic really come into my price range when they have no gum. There are a lot of stamps I would never be able to get if it wasn't for the gum issue.
My personal preference is for used and no gum unused. I live in a humid climate and it is very difficult to maintain the gun in pristine condition. Not having to worry about gum is one less worry.
I have had many bad experiences with gum deterioration.
Read on the Aussie stamp board, some months ago, that some museums remove the gum to prevent brown spots from forming on their stamps. Am assuming it's true, but is anyone familiar with that?
