How do the rest of you handle mounting double sided covers? I typically do a cutout to show the portions of the back of the cover so that they can be viewed turning the page. Here is an example Front of page Back of page Supplemental info page Please share how you do it or any ideas or suggestions.

Fantastic pages Russ! I generally just scan the back of the envelope or card if there's anything interesting. Sometimes the whole thing, sometimes just a back cancel or what ever is there. I also like to add extra information to my pages, if I can dig it up, about the sender, recipient or anything pertinent. Do you find that the whole in the page weakens it and makes it floppy? |

Its rare that I have to make this large of a cutout. There was a problem with the first page on 65lb paper so I went to 110 card stock and it seems to work well. |

Wow that's incredible! Do you use some sort of software to "lift" the postmarks and print them for a reference? |

I typically just include a high-res scan of the back on the page. What kind of mount are you using for the cover? |

Very nice work Russ. I have many First Flight Covers that I use clear vario page protectors to display them. |

I use inexpensive clear plastic pages that house two covers...flip the page to see the back of the covers ! |

I Like what you are doing to mount these. I always just stick mine in a cover binder or mount on a black page. |

I have a turned conferate cover. What do you do then. (When I purchased it in 1986 they bent the corner over so you can see both stamps. Any suggestions. |

Just a pet peeve, hate it when people write anything on covers (prices, cover info, etc). For short term identification I use little post-it notes. |

Like some of the other members have already stated, I would scan the back for any other pertinent markings and add them to your page.
Great pages Russ and nice they way you do them

Chickasaw. Turned covers present a huge proplem. I don't own any so I haven't had to bridge this problem. I have seen some exhibits where they have "exploded" the cover and folded it over to show both stamps and portions of both addresses or postal markings. I think there is value in maintaining them as intact as possible but many features of first use are then not visuble.
Hopefully Chip G.will see this and offer some suggestions.
EDIT: After reviewing about 12 exhibited examples of turned covers the most common method was to explode the cover to fully show all the details of both side, re-fold and mount the cover showing the side to be exhibited and including a high resolution scan of the other side. |
