Makes perfect sense that machine cancel was applied to that stamp, as that slogan was used from 1923-1929. The stamp was issued in 1925, right in the middle of the period of use.

That is a Luff# 3765B type used in various cities from 1925 to 1929. That style, with dashes before and after the "C" in "CAMPS" ( - CAMPS - ) is only in the International Postal Supply Company Killer dies.

The style without "dashes" is made by Universal Stamping Machine Company Dies (Luff# 3765).

U.S. #C11
5¢ Beacon on the Rocky Mountains

Issue Date: July 25, 1928
City: Washington, DC
Quantity: 106,887,675
Printed By: Bureau of Engraving and Printing
Printing Method: Flat plate printing
Perforations: 11
Color: Carmine and blue

In an all-out effort to increase the use of airmail service, the Post Office Department reduced the rate to 5¢ per ounce. Beginning with this issue, airmail stamps were restricted to exclusive use on mail carried by air and could no longer be used as a substitute for ordinary postage. The design features the beacon light that is atop Sherman Hill in the Rocky Mountains.
