Here's an 1899 C. & N. - W. Ry. overprinted 1 cent documentary on a receipt from the Chicago & Northwestern R. R.

Are such private overprints listed by Scott?

A very nice way to have the R163. I have the Scott 2006 Specialized catalog of the US. While it doesn't show another Scott number for the overprint I'm not ready to say there isn't a Scott number.

They are not listed separately by Scott. They are private precancels.
These printed company cancels command a premium. This is a very nice piece.

Precancels and not overprints! Thanks, for the info, Tom.

Hirsch Brothers was such a good customer of the railroad
that the railroad had receipts pre-printed with their name.
