hello all

i am still searching thru my stamps.
i came along this 7 cent perf 10 stamp.
i think it is a scotts 469.[i do not see a watermark]
the only other perf 10 is 430.
in my older scotts I see a reference to an experminental precancel [but not san francisco]
i will look at the precancel sites but would appreciate to see if this cancel adds any value to the stamp.

thanks dan

You are correct this is a #469 issued in 1916. It would have a perf 10 and no water mark. Though make sure to look hard because the single line water mark can be hard to see if you only have a small part of it.

I do know in Dec 1916 there were 4,000 stamps each for Augusta, Me., New Orleans, La., and Springfield, Mass., and the Bureau was in the precanceling business for the time being and the "experimentals" were underway.

That is about all the early pre cancel information I know for now. I have not read where they bring any more money but that doesn't mean they don't.

If very well could be Dan, like I said I'm limited on the precancel period. Though the #469 used can bring an average price of $18.00. Of course it could be higher or lower depending on the market and conditions.

Here is a 7 cents precancel on ebay for a starting bid of $1.50. it may be worth watching.
