At first I just thought I had a few stamps with small tears in them. However I later found out that this was by design. Yes there was something called a cut cancellation. It is rare but this type of cancellation was made when incisions were cut into the stamp.

You will find these mostly on US Revenue stamps between the years 1898 and 1914.

Sounds like the new security Machins to be issued by Britain's Royal Mail in January.
But with Royal Mail it is only a way of taking money from Collectors !

Londonbus1.....Yuck.

Here is a link to one of the source that told me about cut cancellations.

Now here is one of my cut revenues but I also have some Washingtons that are cut canceled. I have tried to resize this for a bigger image I hope it works. The wedges are cut through the paper looking like little tears on the back of the stamp.
