Is there someone here who can read Russian? I have a number of old Russian picture postcards with captions I'd like to translate into English, but entering letters for Russian script into the online dictionaries doesn't work, though English to Russian works beautifully.

i've been learning russian for about a year - i'm not fluent but can read a fair bit. thoese online translators can be too literal sometimes.
if you want i'll cheerfully give it a try. |

Thanks, baomo, I'll scan a few and we'll give it a try. If it works, there could be a lot of old Russian post cards posted to this thread! |

Hello, baomo. I have scanned 5 cards. These are pre-revolution, imperial era cards with very short captions. This is a lovely photo of an old seacoast home. |

these are all very lovely thanks for sharing....
card 1 'ëÕÒÏÒÔß óÕÕËß-óÕ' is 'The Resort Sook-So' -- óÕÕËß-óÕ doesn't really translate but it sounds like Sook-So in Latin alphabet.
card 2 'ëÒÙÍ'Ø. ëÕÒÏÒÔß óÕÕËß-óÕ' is 'Crimea. The Resort Sook-So'
card 3 'ìßÓÎÉÞÅÓÔ×Ï ÂÌÉÚß ñÌÔÙ' is 'Lsnichestvo near Yalta'
card 4 'óÐÕÓËß Ëß õÒÁÌÕ' is 'Descent to the Urals'
card 5 'óÏÞÉ. ðÁÒË èÕÄÑËÏ×Á' is ' Sochi. Khudyakova Park'
*edit for spelling |

the second set card 1 'åÌÉÚÁ×ÅÔÉÎÓËÁÑ ÇÁÌÌÅÒÅÑ, ÇÏÒÔß ìÅÒÍÏÎÔÏ×ß É úÏÌÏ×Á ÁÒÆÁ, ç. ðÑÔÉÇÏÒÓËß' - 'Elizavetinskaya Gallery, Hort Lermontov and Zolova Harp (maybe street or architect names?), City of Pyatigorsk' card 2 '÷ÁÎÏÅ ÚÄÁΦŠNo.3, óÔÁÒÁÑ òÕÓÓÁ' - 'Bath building No.3, Staraya Russa' this one sounds like either ukrainian or maybe belorussian because of the word 'ÚÄÁΦÅ', the letter 'i' isn't russian. card 3 this one is german not russian. 'Greetings from Libau' is my guess. card 4 'äÕÂÒÏ×ÉÉÓË¦Ê ÓÁÄß' - 'Dubrovypskiy garden' again it looks like ukrainian or beloruss because of the ending -'¦Ê' i'm afraid i'm not much help with german - 'Greetings from Dwinsk' |
