I got my mail today and noticed a handsomely franked cover/envelope on the table with my name scrolled across it's front. I was very curious because I hadn't bought anything that wasn't accounted for and didn't immediately recognize the name and address in the return address so I carefully opened it and read the note. It was *****! (He requested anonymity) He had a few items that didn't fit into his collecting focus and sent them along to me! I am blown away! A MINT scott #239 and 2 Mississippi Tobacco revenue stamps yet unidentified. Take a look!

I wondering how that doesn't fit into any collection anywhere. Very nice! |

Great ILS That is a fantastic surprise for you. I guess the tobacco stamps pale to them but still nice to have as well. Chimo Bujutsu |

I guess so James, that's all I can really figure? He just said that since he don't have anyone to pass his stamps down too that he simply wanted to give them a home where they would be better appreciated plus, he don't like mint stamps that much. He collects mainly used and specialized World Wide stuff not American stamps I'm told. |

That's awesome!
I had a similar experience with a fellow collector in England. I mentioned in passing that I only collected US, but the one and only foreign stamp I hoped to have one day was a "Penny Black" to put in my album next to my US #1, just because "every stamp collector should own a Penny Black..."
A week later, a Penny Black shows up in my mailbox! A nice one too... |

Sweet score ratio! It amazes me sometimes how nice the stamp community as a whole can be. This was just out of the clear blue sky too! I'll to return the gesture with something he collects. |

Nice material indeed.
On that 30-cent Columbus Stamp, does that represent the first US stamp in which an animal (in this case, a dog) is featured within the design?
By the way, the Mississippi Tobacco Stamps are from the series of 1933-37, identified as SRS #MS T12 (3c Green); and SRS #MS T13 (3c Red) respectively.
