I always wonder why sellers don't include a scan of the back of the Stamp when selling used Stamps. |

Quote: I always wonder why sellers don't include a scan of the back of the Stamp when selling used Stamps. Well said. Where's the 'like' button? :) The grill looks authentic. The margins look a bit small to me, but if it was reperfed, I can't see it. Other than that, it looks pretty good. Brian |

It'd be a nice buy if the price if reasonable of course. I been looking for a scott #100 for a long time but they're either too pricey or too beat up (even for my loose standards) Still it's a nice stamp. |

Daryl my catalog says this: Quote: Scott #100 (A30 ) 30˘ orange Mint- $8,500. Used-$900. Values for No. 100 are for examples with No gum small margins, especially at sides. Large margined examples sell for much more. |

Quote: i don't think 10% is too much. Considering the stamp. Agreed. This one is uncommon enough that even with small faults, they tend to bring a higher % of catalogue than other classics. |

On top of the faults already mentioned, there is no doubt that one of the sides, probably the right side, has been reperfed. Some other perfs appear to have been improved. |

May I stray a bit off topic and ask how you recognize of a stamp has been re-perfed? |

Not only that but is it illegal/ Unethical? If it falls under repair. Shouldn't the seller present it as repaired? |

I don't think it's illegal but most certainly unethical! I, too thought it reperforated on the right side and bottom. Some look OK but maybe more of a "enhancement" as I've heard it called before but like you, I think it's not bad for a #100 considering it's availability. |

When you are assessing the perforations on a stamp there are several things to look at. They are gauge, hole size, hole shape (they should not be perfectly round), hole appearance (reperfs generally have very cleanly cut holes), straightness, and, are they parallel to the other side. This stamp fails miserably when comparing the gauge of the perforations between the two sides. I think the bottom half of the left side perforations have been improved and possibly a couple on the bottom. Physical examination could uncover more alterations. I would NOT buy this stamp, not even with Daryl's money! |
