i have a question [as always]. i have this stamp a55 design. the paper is very hard and not like the paper for a 179 or a 185. i know that this may be a dream but could it be a 181? the stamp looks like it was a miscut.
Could it be the #179 with double paper? I'm not sure what is meant by double paper though. I see it came with Ribbed and paper with Silk fibers too.
The special printing came with Hard, White Wove Paper without gum. #181
The other did use a soft porous paper.
It does look like it was trimmed with scissors. This may be a candidate for certification. I'm not sure how much of the value would be hurt by the loss of perfs and centering but at $115,000 I think I would still jump for joy even with the discount for condition.
At the APS the cost of certification is 2% of current Scott value.(if you're a member, 4% if not).......If I'm not mistaken....that would be....$3,750.00.....plus certified postage both ways.......fee is based on value.
You need to be absolutely sure it's real BEFORE you consider sending it in.
My guess is the only way you could determine the status of this stamp would be certification or someone who could examine the stamp and was fairly knowledgeable.
I mean if I sent a stamp in for certification and then they sent me a bill for $3 grand I would be happy to pay that because I now have a vested interest in a known stamp that I would probably sell for what ever I could get close to the value it is listed for.
I am assuming you would need to check on the market price for this stamp. In any event a stamp like this is worthless until validated in my mind.
I will note: I have no experience or direct knowledge of how this works with high valued stamps. This is not an area that I claim to have more than a weak understanding.
