I saw these stamps on ebay but I doubt these stamps are 599a. Any opinion?

The 599 is a coil stamp to begin with. There wasn't an "A" in the bunch. He got 5 bids on common stamps.

My Scott catalog does show a 599A. It is a 2 cent coil, carmine type II. Poor Roger North had a senior moment, something I am all to familiar with!

I sent an email to ask how can they identify these ones as coin stamps but they just ignored. Very bad!

I can ID these. Why you looking for one?

I have at least 4 of these in that mess up above.. Type II. Design of A157

I think I may have a 599b also (at least I'm sure it's carmine lake anyways)

Hi ILS,

I have a fair number of these and I have not really tried cataloging them. What methodology would you use to begin cataloging say a 100 of these?

Could you give me a step by step instruction if its not asking for too much.

Thanks for all the help.

Well I can tell you a little bi; enough to get you started anyways-

First you need to determine the perforation count.

Then, you need to "type them" by identifying the subtle differences between types I. & II.

Of course there are the color varients and coils

Look up the scott number to the corresponding stamp.

I have bought a lot of stuff from Roger. You have to be careful with his stamp identification, but he starts things at 99 cents for a lot of his lots. I don't think Roger misidentifies things on purpose. He sells a lot of stamps and I think sometimes he relies on previous collectors ID's on the stamps. When I have pointed things out to him he cancelled the auctions and when I saw them come up again they were identified correctly.

I usually am very aware of what I'm looking for to begin with and seldom pay attention to any price scribbled down in the sellers images or the ID number if it's from a shady dealer or one I'm not familiar with. Just know what you want and how to ID it, and ask questions!
