I was exploring my "new" 2001 scott's specialized library book until my 2013 Scott's Specialized Catalog shows up and was looking through the postal stationery section trying to ID an unused cover I have and what I think I have here is a Scott U429, design of U93 but I'm having trouble with the die type? From the nose to the back of the neck it's seems to be 9¼ mm (this could be wrong) but the rest seems to add up to die 7? Admittedly I have little to no experience with these so, any postal stationery experts I would love to hear from. What do you think I have here? Thank you very much for any help or advice. Also, not that it matters to me, but what is the going unused book value on this? Thanks again. -Jeff

Another I would appreciate assistance with.-

I'm not a postal stationery specialist but at first glance I would say that the top example is a die 8 and the second example a die 7. The reason being that die 8 has longer top strokes on the letter "T"; die 7 has shorter top strokes on the letter "T".

Yeah I think your right Bill. I re-measured it and I believe it is indeed 8¼ mm from nose to neck so that would make perfect sense. I'm such a rookie at these...lol That's part of the fun for me is figuring it out then asking someone that knows their stuff to see how I measure up! These could get addicting really quick..

Not an expert, but...

Top: Die 8 (large top bar on T's, round C)
Bottom: Die 7 (small top bar on T's, round C)

Die 9 is distinguished from Dies 7-8 by the oval shaped C/G/O's.

ID guide to the circular dies is available under Articles on http://jobi.bizhosting.com
This ID guide goes beyond even the specialty catalogs.

I collected and assembled the info but I still need to refer to an id guide. Lot of electrotypes were used during the many, many years the circular dies were in use (1915-1950) leading to a lot of eye strain trying to find those scarce dies.
