The stamp has a second cut for the die. So, there is type 1 and type 2 or first issue then 2nd issue correct? My question is, was the second cut in the die. The reissue of the stamp 102 or does it go back further than that and to what numbers. I cant find it anywhere. When the die was re cut was it the issue of 102 92 86 see what I mean. Thanks Steve.

In 1875 all US stamps issued to date were reproduced or reprinted by the US Government with the intention of making them more readily available to collectors. However the numbers printed were very small, so most of the reissues are rarer and more expensive than the originals.

New plates were prepared in 1875 by the National Bank Note Co. for the special printing of the 1c Franklin (#102). The new plates not used before 1875. The earlier types differ only in the grills applied to the stamps to prevent reuse (except #63c on laid paper).

The 1c blue Franklin types are:

#63 no grill
#63c laid paper
#85A grill 11x14mm
#86 grill 11x13mm
#92 grill 9x13mm
#102 no grill, hard white paper, re-issue of 1875 from new plates, special printing

Well, Hello there t360,first on the draw again. The professor of stamps. I always learn so much from you its amazing all you know. Oh yes, nice set of covers on the (Pan A E) you showed. that one was planned so Brilliantly laid out a man can dream of those type items. Any way back to my stamp. It is said that type II or issue 2, on the re cut plate had a small tick mark inside the boarder just to the right of left side # 1. So the new plate or type 2, only produced what 3000 or so stamps?
