hi,good day,i need help from the malaya stamps experts to identify the TRUE colour and paper of this stamp. This is a malaya selangor mosque japanese occupation 12c stamp issued in 1942 but before that,it was issued and kept by the british government in 1936 then captured by the japanese goverment in 1942.Both of them are the same stamps with same overprinted DAI NIPPON POSTAGE in japanese words but their colour are slightly difference, the left stamp colour looks like blue to me and the right stamp colour is bright ultramarine which is normal.is it a colour variety on the left stamp?or normal?I also suspect the left stamp is printed on ordinary paper instead of chalk-surfaced paper normally,so that the colour is abit rough compare with the right stamp,am I right?correct me if im wrong.I hope someone who is an expert in this issue can help me this time.Help is always apprieiciated.thanks

Here's what I see in my Scott's:

-- 12c ultramarine on chalky paper released in 1936

As to overprinted values:

-- 12c ultramarine on chalky paper, released in 1943, overprint can be either way.

If yours is printed on ordinary paper, then you may have an unknown variety, but the paper type would have to be determined first. I do know that colour variations on the older stamps are not unusual, though, no matter how striking they may appear.

I suspect the one on the right is just a fresher, cleaner, unfaded copy.
