I really like the international stamps. Maybe they can come up with something original next year, like maybe a ball for the tree or a star maybe? The winter fun booklet looks like a bunch of TB labels, they could have done a whole lot better. The Magi stamp looks a little bit like something I have seen before?

I'll add one more, for the new Priority Mail Rate that takes effect in September. Word has it that the date of issue for the stamp is going to be October. The stamp features the West Virginia Glade Creek Grist Mill: http://www.babcocksp.com/gristmill.html |

The (5) subjects (not the designs) of the upcoming Celebrity Chefs issue have been announced. They are: Quote: Teacher and author James Beard (1903-1985) avidly fostered a more vibrant food culture in the United States. He was a passionate advocate of local ingredients and markets, and his popular books covered everything from seafood to bread.
Through cookbooks, a trailblazing television show, and her landmark restaurants in the Boston area, Joyce Chen (1917-1994) became one of America's greatest popularizers of Chinese food. She is also credited with introducing the flat-bottom wok to American kitchens.
Julia Child (1912-2004) demystified French cuisine in the United States. Her extremely popular television shows and cookbooks made her synonymous with American cooking for more than 40 years, and she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2003.
By bringing such quintessential dishes as shrimp and grits and roast chicken to the plates of trendy restaurants, Edna Lewis (1916-2006) showed her fellow Americans the vitality of Southern cooking.
Widely credited with introducing the Spanish small-plate tapas concept to American restaurants, Felipe Rojas-Lombardi (1946-1991) drew upon the eclectic kitchens of his youth in Peru to raise the profile of South American cuisine in the United States. One of my favorite chefs was Justin Wilson. I was hoping he would make the honor.

I'd never heard of Lewis and Rojas-Lombardi, but after reading up on them it looks like USPS has made a good selection. The five show a wide variety of cuisines, not to mention ethnicities and a mix of men and women. An excellent way to portray the diversity of America -- through it's cooking! |

Today's Postal Bulletin (09/04/2014) has summarized all of the US Stamps issued and/or announced to date. It is available at this link: http://about.usps.com/postal-bullet...info_005.htmIf you read down to the very last entry, it refers to the Wilt Chamberlain Stamp which is due to be issued in December. It was previously announced that the stamp would be an "extra tall" variety, but as noted in the above listing there will actually be two designs. Whether or not both designs will be "extra tall" or if one "extra tall" stamp and one conventional sized stamp may be used in the pane is yet to be determined. |

The Celebrity Chefs stamps were previously posted for release on September 26, 2014, however, only the James Beard stamp was shown. The USPS has now released illustrations of the remaining stamps in the series, including: James Beard, who championed American cuisine while fostering a vibrant food culture in the United States. Joyce Chen, who helped popularize Chinese food in the United States through cookbooks and television appearances. Julia Child, whose television shows and cookbooks helped demystified French cuisine for Americans. Edna Lewis, the "Grande Dame of Southern Cooking" and one of the first chefs to stress the importance of fresh, seasonal ingredients. Edward (Felipe) Rojas-Lombardi, who is credited with introducing Spanish tapas to American restaurants. |
