dottytot,

1st welcome to SCF.

What is sounds like is you were given somebodys Olympic Topical Collection. You could list the stamps as one lot "1972-84 Olympic Stamps." or break them out by year "1972 Olympic Stamp Collection"
Hope this helps,

Don Lawson

Hello dottytot, welcome to Stamp Community!

You could look on ebay, searchig for 'olympic' or 'olympiad' and then the year or / and the country (in English), to see what others are selling their's for.

Sometimes selling one set of stamps at a time or even one stamp at a time gives you bigger returns.

The Olympics is a big collecting topic and very popular, and sometimes even certain sports or events are wanted, or flags, famous people, scenes, etc.

But also keep in mind that during the Olympics many countries issue a lot of stamps to sell to collectors, so some are valued more than others, depending on the topic and rarity or lack of.

A Scott's Standard Catalogue of Posage Stamps, multi-volume (6-7 now) printing, that is in colour now and lists stamps by their issue date and country, would be a nice reference to have. Usually found in most libraries in the loan-out section and the reference section also.

There are even probably separate catalogues for certain popular topics like the Olympics.

The American Topical Association (ATA) has lists of stamps in topic collecting areas.

Sold as a group, most stamps will go for very few cents each. Sold singly or in sets to the right collector at the right time (say a stamp show or bourse or even a stamp club meeting or ebay over time) you will have a better chance of getting a fair price.

Retail price is difficult to get unless they are rare or really wanted in a collection. Collectors are picky sometimes.

This is thread that has a lot of Olympic stamps shown on Stamp Community (SCF) in the Topical section:
https://goscf.com/t/1152&SearchTerms=olympic

Searching on SCF (button top right) will also show many threads on Olympics.

Depends. The design, the eye appeal, the look, the popularity of certain countries, etc, all afffect the asking and getting price (my words!).

Some third world countries do produce nice looking stamps but not everyone collects them. Some people, starting out, like to collect their own country or a topic that interests them.

The Olympics do have a wide appeal to many people so are nice to have, but as I said before, the amont of stamps actually printed and sold to dealers and collectors do affect their pricing.

What does Magyar posta mean?

Magyar are the people of the country of Hungary, Posta is their Post Office or postal service.

Boliva is Bolivia but I am not altogether familiar with the South American countries stamps, pretty though some are. They do have some department stamps which are official revenue ype of stamps and will be found in a Revenue catalogue but not usually in a postage stamp catalogue.

For more info from some collectorzs who actually know more than I do about certain areas and countries please consider starting your own topic or topics in an appropriate forum section and posting questions or comments and scans or photos there. The more minds the better, so to speak.
