I did a search for "Limited Edition" and nothing came up, hence this topic. I don't know how many of these 2013 limited edition stamps they will print (or have printed), or how many of them there will be. But I was in the post office mailing some kiloware to a member buddy when I saw this stamp and just had to have it. It just bleeds history. I don't collect stamps past 1988 except for a select few and this will go into my album along with my other elite post 1988 stamp selections. And since this is only a limited print run, I expect in 10 years I will be living next door to Donald Trump. (I will throw my leaves in his yard.) -IBFS

The term "limited edition" is coined by the USPS marketing people to describe what everyone has previously known as "commemorative" stamps.
The Emancipation Proclamation Stamp (Scott #4721) you refer to has had a major print run of 45 million stamps and has even been reprinted with an additional quantity of 10 million stamps because inventory was running low. So we have at least 55 million stamps out there.
It will be interesting to find out if the recently announced reprint creates any discernable difference from that of the original printing. |

Thanks for the Scott No. in your post, wt...I was just going to look into that. 55 million stamps eh, well so much for the Trump dump. And Limited Editions = Commemoratives now. OK. -IBFS |

I believe the "Upside down upside down Jenny" is a Limited Edition? If you can manage to get some of those your Donald dream might come through!

Quote: I believe the "Upside down upside down Jenny" is a Limited Edition? Well, the Upside Down Jenny Souvenir Sheet is referred to as a "limited edition"; whereas the right-side up Jenny Souvenir Sheet is coined by the USPS to be a "very limited edition". |

OK...Lemme get this straight...
"Limited Edition" now is the same as a "Commemorative Stamp", so a "Very Limited Edition" would be a "Very Commemorative Stamp"?

every stamp ever issued was a limited edition. The phrase means nothing. |

Wt1, you fell for my "Upside down upside down Jenny"! I meant the 100 sheet one, where the upside down Jenny was printed upside down! By the way, I really hope they don't do this sort of nonsense any more. I believe it turns people off if a legitimate issue is beyond almost anybody's reach. How do I tell a child that he can not have a modern issue because of an idiotic stamp issue policy?

Quote: Aww...c'mon wt1, I was joking at the USPS, not at you. I didn't mean to upset you if I did. I'm not at all upset ... so don't worry. However, I am with the majority (I think) of stamp collectors who don't agree with some of these new terms either, but you can't change the minds of the USPS, I guess. Just like they have changed the term "postal card" to "stamped card". And now we have "special stamps" (see USA Philatelic) where Holiday stamps have been put into this category (instead of definitives or commemoratives) ... limited edition or not. Actually, I don't think the fault lies with the USPS as much as it does with their high priced marketing group which comes up with some of these new ideas (supposedly) to drum up new interest in the stamp collecting hobby. |

Yeah wt1 don't come all unglued now...lol j/k
Seriously though I really don't like all this new terminology. It sort of like trickery via semantics is it not? |

But I've seen one of those Limited Edition signs on the counter at my PO and it not only pictures a number of commems, butit also pictured one of the 4 Seasons Flags definitives. |

Why change something that has been in place for decades when it accomplishes confusion more than anything else?
Why do they now call "Rap music" "Hip Hop" music?
