GREAT Topic, folks.......

A couple of observances.....

ART LAUNIER LOVES TO HAGGLE....I've seen him in action!! :)
And I'm sure he's laughing right now....and he is a specialist, regardless of whether he calls himself one or not...loves those curls!

I think that it is absolutely true that the dealers learn if they want to as much as attendees, if they're open to it. I usually have something with me to show around, and it's a nice ice-breaker, and a I've found a good way to get some conversation going. If one specializes in an issue, they are going to know more about that issue than most of the dealers do-- I showed a dealer in Evansville a couple of weeks ago where he had a Type Va, and although he has some really great classic material, I'm sure he doesn't have the time to really look and magnify every 1c Franklin he has. So, it can be give and take, and learn from each other...and in showing the dealer the Type Va, I also built in trust for myself.

Also agreed with essayK that exhibiting does not necessarily have to equate with cost-- and I've said on SCF several times, that US Classics also do not have to equate with cost-- there are still hundreds of thousands of #24, 26 and 65 out there, and so many things that can be done with them, inexpensively, and with some creativity, one could absolutely exhibit. Plating #24 and #26. Shades on #26. I'm still thinking about an exhibit called "The 3c 1861 Washington Issue with a cost of less than $1000". Lots of shades, cancels, covers and uses can be found very reasonably.

And I've really enjoyed getting to meet some folks from SCF at shows, and at national shows, you can also run into guys like Bill Weiss (usually with Jim Lee), and pick their brains a bit.

Thanks to essayK for the topic.....Ray

@spanishmoss

The StampKing store is practically on top of the intersection of Higgins and Harlem Ave right where Harlem exits from I-90. Both of the big shows (Chicagopex and Compex) are in western suburbs, but on arterials that connect easily to I-90, so the trek to his store is not a long or complicated one. Google or a GPS can show you the way. Making the run from the west suburbs to the store between 9am and 2pm nets you the least traffic. Not that you would need to do that while you are here for Chicagopex. He will be at the show.

Yes, I am planning to attend Chicagopex this year. But I won't be exhibiting (couldn't get it far enough along at application time - hehe).

So, who all else is going to Chicagopex this year? http://www.chicagopex.com/chicagopex2012.html (last WSP show of the year)

@raymac - my pleasure.

raymac: I think Florex (Dec. 6-8) would object to your statement that Chicagopex is the last WSP of the year.

My apologies. My post should have been directed to essayk not raymac.

Ah, rightly so! I stand corrected. Now that we have our first snow of the season here in the Windy city, heading for Florex sounds like a pretty good idea.
