Phil - Yea, that is why I sorted all the pages by country. Sorted by year makes it too hard to place stamps. I added some of the 60s to my first set then just waited until I had all the supplements to 1992. Then I realized the size of the project I had to sort them into countries. But now that it is done, it is impressive. I have boxes of stamps, pages of stamps, and a couple books to sort thru to combine into my new albums. Luckily, 98% of the stamps are already sorted. The problem is that even though it looks complete, as I number them there are a lot of spaces missing. So as I do each country, I number the stamps and make pages or spaces for any numbers missing. So by the time I have gone through the stamps I have on hand, the entire collection will have spaces for all stamps to 1992 and numbered. About half of the 12,000 pages are already numbered by Scott. So that only leaves me 6,000 pages to number and add pages to. Piece of cake! Maybe I will be done by this time next year. |

Well, I am working hard on it, just trying to be optimistic. As I do this, I begin to realize the extent of the work needed. I spend 1 to 2 days per country. There are what, 460 different countries? So, if I work hard, I make get it finished in a year. |

jaxom..there are some things about the Scott Internationals that drive me nuts...how some years for some countries or colonies contain almost no stamps..say I find some stamps from an area for 1967...i go to my album...there are stamps pictured from 1966 and from 1968..but almost nothing from inbetween..i have to look for a blank space to mount the stamps..is it just me or is it Scott ?? It seems like things fall between the cracks ! |

Phil:
It's Scott. There are big holes in that album system. Minkus was better, but Scott bought them out.
Amazing what you learn (and see) working at a stamp shop.

Well, here is what I have found is Scott albums.... First they are weak before 1930, which everyone knows. Second bad areas are 1965-1968. They must have had some lazy bum working for them in those years. I end up making a lot of pages for these years. That is why I number the stamps and make pages for 1965-8 even if I leave the earliest alone, which is rare. That is why it is taking me so long to put my stamps in my album. I thought it was just my pages that were bad from 1965-8. I have bought some stamps on scott pages and found some that were printed on the back and my similar page was not. Some of the supplements I bought were used and I was starting to think that pages were removed. But if it was Scott and not just my pages, you will find gaps in that area. Some a full Scott catalog page missing in the album. |

Thats what I have found from around 1963 to when my pages end in 1969..i check the dates of the stamps I buy hoping there will be a space for them..when I was young and poorer than I am now..i thought the scotts internationals were the cats meow...we have to live and learn..if you are serious about a country you have to get the scott specialized album for that country |

Maybe we need a new poll. After 2 years, some of you that already voted probably have changed a bit?
I have 14 stockbooks right now: 13 lindner and 1 lighthouse.
And 8 albums: - 3 Davo for Canada - 1 Lighthouse for Canada - 1 Lighthouse for Macau - 1 Lighthouse for Norway (with an assortment of pages) - 2 Davo for Netherlands |

I've just counted up mine - scary.
28 A4 albums, and 20 stock books (I use the stock books as "holding albums" before sorting stamps into my "proper" albums). When I get round to updating everything currently in the stock books, there'll probably be another 6 albums or so . . . . I have carefully trained myself away from the "completion" obsession - but wow do I make up for this in width of spread! |
