Hi stampcrow,

Happy NY to you and ALL.
Modern Blocks usually do not fetch higher values than total of
singles in block. (at most slight more).
By the way your block has variation in verticle pairs left side
to right side. also verticle 7th perf not completly perfed.

if Plate block,MI or other may fetch more. EOF will deffinately more value.

Unless hard press for storage place I will not seperate.
will keep as it is. jmo

tikithindi, greeting and all the best for 2014. Thanks for your post.
My plan is to keep it intact and see about getting the selvedge cleaned up. The problem I have with is how it displays. I have it on a page with the $1.00 and $2.00 (Scott 823,833) both plate # blocks and then, this one with that blotch on it. It's the first thing the eye is drawn to. So I would consider removing the selvedge, if it doesn't effect the value, to improve it's look.

I find that left verticle perf line to be interesting. I'm hoping when I get down to NYC and the Philatical Foundation I can learn more about that. Is it a flaw, error or maybe common.

OK, some good news, bad news.....
Good news, I've been down in Brooklyn the last couple of days. Bad news....record cold temps....

Good news, I got over to the Philatelic Foundation. Bad news, My block of Calvin Coolidge is not the #834a color error.

Good news, I have a block of u.s. Scott #834. Bad news, well there is none. It's all good. Had an excellent visit at the foundation. They took a look at a couple other stamps I have for color checks. These were also found to be the more common color's, as suspected. My 1Franc French is the more common #9.
The folks there were great. I look forward to stopping there again with other questions.

They didn't charge me today. For the #834 a gentleman took a look at it and knew right away it was the normal color. Meanwhile another guy had brought out a #block of 834a. Held side by side it was unmistakable. But I would say, the scan of mine in this thread does, especially in the numerals, show like the error.

stampcrow.....was never trying to mislead.
Everyone comes on here thinking they have the more valuable type....not you.
Based on the scan I thought you had a legit chance...or I would not even
have said anything. Apologies...KL

Kevin504, no sir, no apology needed. You called what you saw. It was fun. I had convinced myself the scan looked just like the stamps in my hand...But I went in knowing it was unlikely.

I've been meaning to get to the foundation in NYC for awhile now. That was the kick in the pants I needed.
I'm glad I went and will go there again soon.
Thanks

Stampcrow good you visited and found you answer.
After moving to LA.Calif. I feel I am disadvantage of vising
such facilities. IT was easy for me when wasin Virginia (DC area).
seeing scan I would suggest frequent picking up with hand. Stamps
gets little dirty, I always pick with tongs.

cheers
tikithindi

Thanks tikithindi. Yea that block is back on the page with it's mates. Wont be handled again for a long while. I left the selvage on it. Someday I'll get motivated and see if it can be cleaned. For now it's tucked away as is.
