I am looking at a stamp in an Auction . It is identified as such BF0339. It's not a Scott's Number, Not Stanley Gibbons. What is it? Does anybody know?

Hi TinMan. Can you give us a little bit more info? A picture maybe, or a link to the auction?

It's U.S.A. I know what scott # it is. I want to know who's number it is. I tried to get you a link into the Auction and it's a registered Auction. Private and there is no link. You must be registered to access it. I don't think it's a private number. But it could be. I looked but couldn't find anything in reference too. Peter I'm going to go back to it and see if it is a 1684. Hang on. Yes it is. But who's number is BF0339?

Could it just be that sellers auction lot numbers or an ID having nothing to do with the stamp ID?

There are only a few stamps in the Auction with those numbers. Some have those and the scott Numbers and other just have the Scott Numbers plus all have the Lot Number assigned to it.

You seem to be very befuddled. That number is meaningless unless more info is given. At least we needed the country to match up the stamp for identification. I have been collecting for 56 years and that number so far means nothing. Probably an id for the auction house. Your question is quite clear the info you have supplied is something for the "Psychic Hot Line".

Randy I already said it's U.S. stamps. I also have been collecting 55 years. I'm sorry I don't know how to explain it any clearer. It's not an Auction house number. Petert4522 about nine posts up guessed it.The stamp. I found the stamp in the Scott Catalog but I want to know what the number is or who's it is.

No you did not say it was US until I asked you what country. Are we not entitled to a little info to deduce this mysterious number?

Why do you not ask the auction house though this little game is fun?

TinMan, I was fooling around today and ran into the auction on Stamporama. One of the sellers there, I believe his handle was BottomFeeder, was using the B and the F of his handle to catalog his sales. I thought it was sort of unique and I guess it stuck in the back of my head. When I saw your post, a little light came on! Happy we found it!

TinMan, another way to find it: Google! I just googled "BF0339 stamp" and it came up with the correct Scott number!
