This post is directed mainly to Canadian and American members....

As we all know, there is a recession looming. This will be hard on many folks, but here is a New Year's resolution you can keep, and help out our hobby.

Do not purchase anymore stamps from Canada Post/USPS for 2009. Why? Well, all those stamp dealers we deal with have thousands of dollars in mint "obsolete/out-dated" postage. This is money just sitting there.

Instead of purchasing stamps from the post office, purchase them from the stamp dealer. You will help him stay in business, and at the very least, you can usually get the stamps less than face!

My local dealer makes up packets of 54¢ x 10 for the walk-in traffic at his store.

Don't live near a stamp dealer? Lots of dealers advertise in The Canadian Stamp News and Linn's Stamp News with similar offers. Order from them.

For Canadians, a suitable combination would be 2 x 20¢ stamps plus 1 x 14¢, for the 54¢ domestic letter rate.. For Americans, 1 x 22¢ and 1 x 20¢ stamps for the 42¢ domestic letter rate.

I know that people notice more than one stamp on a letter, and it gives me the opportunity to promote our wonderful hobby.

What do you think?

David

Being someone that loves cover, this would go a
long way towards making some interesting cover!

I wasn't aware of these deals. I don't have a
dealer nearby, nor do I get the publications you
mention. I buy a great deal of stamps for my small
business. I wonder if these deals would be legal
business expenses? Don't want IRS trouble.

Yes. It is a legal business expense.

Can anyone help ratio with a copy of Linn's Stamp News?

Do they, or anyone who sells stamps like this,
have a website? Can anyone recommend a good
mail order old stamp for postal use dealer?

I think its a grand idea. I buy a lot of face value stamps at shows and use them on my philatelic related mail. Unfortunately, I don't have a local stamp dealer that I can do business with.
