Reviewing these items as I can on the web, is it possible to fake these stamps? WM's are single line as described. The perfs appear to me to be VERY "clean"and crisp. These are 2 sets I have in my collection. Comparing to some, they "look" proper. Thanks for any opinions/info!

Thanks Kevin for the response. Another question: is the item on link provided a reperf? It looks like some holes in the center are a bit out of line with each other, then the right side perfs do not line up with center and far left perfs. Sorry for the noob questions, just trying to understand.

Totally agree with Kevin... the top edges of the pair clearly show a worn pair of scissors (albeit the bottom cut is clean)

I thought that flat plate coils do not have perfs in different rows that line up with each other while rotary press coils do have perfs in different rows that line up with each other.

. . . . .
. . . . . lined up perfs on rotary press coils

The #443 line pair appears to most probably be faked from a pair of #408. The other two pairs, examine the center perf. holes closely under high magnification-the holes should not be perfectly rounded. Should be slightly oblong, as if the hole was "stretched" slightly, and show some paper fibers within the holes resulting from the shearing action as the paper fed through the in-line perforating process. May not necessarily be way out of round, but should show something other than a clean, crisp, sharply cut round hole. Examine the straight edges--should not look too sharply cut--although they could be depending upon the sharpness of the cutting wheel--new wheel vs. well used wheel. On flat plate coils pairs, having all three sets of perforation holes line up evenly in the horizontal is unlikely although not impossible. These appear to line up evenly which make it suspect. Hope this helps some in determining whether they are faked or real. Without having them in hand, can't tell for sure just from the scan. They do not necessarily appear faked, but examine them closely for these tell tale signs. Bill Weiss will check them with a reasonable fee if you're not sure.
