Hello Gentlemen,

I'm Philippe, from Belgium.
An old (as in 89) friend recently gave me some stamp albums he collected 50y ago, asking me if I could be bothered to look up if there's any value in them.
One of them is a very nicely made (I enjoyed reading it, though I'm not into stamps, at least that I know of :-) ) history of the US.
Some of the stamps are quite old, looking them on stampworld, I got the impression some of them might have some value to collectors.
But I thought I might defer to the collective knowledge of a forum such as this to get a better idea.

So here are some that seemed worth asking about :

Hamilton 30c (1888 ?)

Lincoln 6c

Lincoln 15c

Franklin $1

Various Franklin

(there are some more, but those are the oldest in the album)

Thank you for your time !

edit: bleh, the images are not showing, I suppose because I'm too new here ?
The links should be working, sorry about that.

Those are not the actual image urls, they're page urls. I'd fix them for you but I'm on my way out the door.

Not much for monetary value but they'd all fit nicely into any collection. The 15˘ Lincoln would be the cream of the crop but the top perfs have been cut off removing most of the value.

*Edit* Is the 6˘ Lincoln unused ? Is there still any gum on it ? Thought it was used on initial fly by but if it's unused there would be some value there depending on the Gum condition.

Thanks for your feedback stallzer.

The Lincoln 6c seems unused to me (there's another one, used on the same page of the album),
but I don't think there's much gum left.
In fact, here is how it is in the album.

Hi Phillipe. Welcome to SCF!

The first stamp (30c Alexander Hamilton) is listed as #217 (from 1888) in the Scott Catalogue for US stamps, and has a value of $120.00 in VF condition. Yours is nicely centered, but has a heavy cancellation. If there are no faults, it should have a retail value of $20-$30.

The second stamp (6c Lincoln) Could be a couple of different catalogue numbers, but we need to see a close-up scan of the lower, left corner and the back in order to help identify it. The centering of that stamp is "average" and as such, the retail value will be relatively low - even if unused - unless it is an earlier printing.

The third stamp (15c lincoln) appears to be a #77, but we need to see a scan of the back in order to verify that. Although it is a potentially valuable stamp ($225 catalogue value), the condition is poor and at best, has a retail value of less than $20.

The fourth stamp ($1 Franklin) is # 518 and has a catalogue value of $1.50.

The remaining stamps have minimal value.

Cheers!

Brian

Stallzer I must respectfully disagree about that Scott #77. Whilst it is mostly the case about having the perfs trimmed off any stamp I would still like to point out that it was common practice in this time period to separate the stamps from the pane with scissors straight from the post office, so it's a very common find and would fit nicely into a period collection, Now I'm not disagreeing with your logic, but I don't think the stamp in question here should be completely dismissed like that just because of the trimmed perfs. Granted a better one could be found and it could be upgraded but I personally think it's a fine used example. Most of the time, however, this does holds true.

As a side note though, I live your large Banknotes! Very nice at least in my opinion! Cheers! -Jefficus Maximus (yes the painkillers are kicking in -FINALLY!) lol

50 years ago isn't that long off. The hinge looks greyish, and not telltale green. I have seen many old hinges without rounded dennison corners in very vintage known older albums. one never knows...tho. Heres a thought. it may be an 50 year old collection, but someone may have just recently affixed them with hinges for presentation?? could be ya know.

The problem Jeff is that nobody will ever know if it came from a cut line on a pane, also the side perfs are gone and they were definitely not on a cut line. A decent #77 can be found for $25 so that would make the one shown here of minimal value.

I never stated that it's not a keeper and for the most part all the stamps shown above would fit nicely into any collection.
