I've collected stamps for well over 50 years now. My principle collection is U.S. I think I have a pretty nice collection yet the only person who has ever laid eyes on it is myself. Part of me would like to have at least one other person take a look at what I've assembled and appreciate it a little bit. Before you suggest, there's no local stamp club. My wife is as interested in my stamp collecting as she is in NFL or MLB {sigh}. My two daughters have no interest as well. While I have this "nice" collection, it's kind of like the tree that falls in the forest, but there's no one around so it makes no noise.

First of all, a belated welcome to SCF!

I can sympathize with your plight. I live up a tree in a knot hole (I think my neighbors are related to the Keeblers ) with no other collectors nearby.

The only interest any member of my family has for my collection is what it might bring when my stamp albums are closed for good.

That's why you have come to the right forum! Post your collection here! There are a lot of, um, discerning people who would be glad to comment. We all appreciate a good stamp.

Another option is to scan your collection to put it on a website or a photo hosting site like Photobucket or a similar site.

Some of the members here have drop-dead neat websites. I'm sure you will get a lot of suggestions. Look at some of their sites. Maybe you can find what works for you.

Dan

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.

Howell - welcome and please post away. Danstamps-- The view from the knothole is better than the view from under a rock. Sharing here on SCF wether good bad or indifferent opinions is what makes the hobby great. This is my stamp club and is always open.

Howell, welcome to the forum. My brother and I collected as kids and he kept going until he tired of it and sold it off not long before I restarted which was a shame. It would have been a great hobby for us the grow old with. Unfortunately, he just doesn't have the interest in it again up to this point.

I'm one of the guys that had started a website for my collection. Several reasons - #1 was to make it much simpler to identify what I need and what needs to be upgraded. 2) much more likely to flip through that than pull out several volumes and flip page by page through them (I'm pretty good with a mouse wheel :) and 3) To be able to share it with friends/family to be able to look at in a more modern way than albums - here's my site - http://www.mystupidhobbies.com/Stamps/index.html (and no, the cat was not relieving herself in the box :)

When I hear vacuum and stamp collecting, I am reminded of the inverted Jenny stamp that was sucked up by a vacuum cleaner a few years ago.

I don't think anyone has ever seen my collection. My wife collects Japanese stamps but she has no interest in anything I collect. Stamp collecting is primarily a solo activity. I want to be able to talk about stamps but hardly anyone really wants to do that, I can't say that I really care to put my collection out there. I'm fine having a collection that is for my eyes only.

I have it worse than all of you. My stamp collection is in storage in Canada while I live in China. I see it once a year while squatting in a storage locker, holding a flashlight in my mouth, while I put in new acquisitions from the previous year. It has never been on a shelf nor has anyone ever seen it.

TomSwift, Greetings:

The bulk of my stamp & coin collections are 7 time zones away.

I am addressing this issue by buying more stuff.

Not sure which to move where, were that issue to arrive.

Don't like screens enough to scan the lot for easy distance viewing.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

Now-a-days I think that the tree does make a noise because I heard it.

It's nice to sort and accumulate and collect and enjoy and appreciate however a person wants with their stamps and stuff.

This online sharing on this forum is great for me as even though there are stamp clubs and groups nearby I hardly get out to them, although I do wish to now. Practice makes perfect and all that I suppose.

Much like Mike33, that's why I started a website for mine. It seemed like I was spending a lot of money on a hobby that I couldn't share with anyone, so I started posting mine online. And it's very helpful when it comes to keeping up with what I have.
