Hi all I can not identify this stamp. I see no where in my catalogs a blue Roosevelt with a straight edge on just the right side. Nor one with a blue line going down the right side.

It's a straight edge, sometimes referred to as a "Natural Straight Edge" Basically, 4th Bureau definitives were printed in sheets of 200, divided into two panes of 100 each. That straight edge and guide line were where the sheets were cut apart.

It is too bad that collectors don't value straight edges as much, but they are every bit as genuine as non-straight edges. Since I don't mind them, I have been able to buy some very nice stamps for less because of straight edges. I like the straight edges with the cutting lines showing just to make sure that they were not just stamps with damaged perforations that were trimmed off.

Theoretically, they should be more valuable, even for common stamps. Out of a pane of 400, there would be only 72 straight-edged stamps, plus another 4 with two straight edges, but 324 that were perforated on all four sides.

Of course, some people would see these as "defective" and not want to collect them, bringing the value down a bit.

One pulled perf can greatly reduce the value of a Stamp let alone a whole side of missing perfs.....

Stamp collectors generally like balance; perforations all around, and the stamp design as centered as possible between the perfs.

I'm not to picky about my collection. I will keep what ever stamp I have until a better one of the same scott number comes along. This is the only straight edge stamp I have and I might even keep it if I get a better one just because it is a straight edge. I just like stamps.
