I think it's pretty cool to have a 1900 postal card, with reply copy still attached, used in 1900 but also with the 1901 Pan American cancel.

It's always nice to find a face to put with the name, as in this photo of the addressee, George Urban, Jr.:

Of interest to this thread is that he was a prominent Buffalo businessman (flour trade) and a promoter of the 1901 Pan American Exposition.

A more detailed biography on George Urban, Jr. and his flour business is available at this link:

http://wnyheritagepress.org/photos_...n_flour.html

It makes me tired to even think of all of his other business pursuits:

Quote:
George Urban, Jr. was:
1. First vice-president of the Buffalo General Electric Company
2. First vice-president of The Cataract Power and Conduit Company
3. President of The Buffalo and Niagara Falls Electric Light and Power Company
4. President of The Buffalo Loan, Trust, and Safe Deposit Company
5. Director of the Market Bank
6. Director of the Bank of Buffalo
7. Director of the Buffalo German Insurance Company
8. Director of the Buffalo Commercial Insurance Company
9. Director of the Buffalo Elevating Company
10. Director of the Ellicott Square Company
11. One of the organizers of The Thomson-Houston Electric Light Company (and served as its president until the business was absorbed by the Buffalo General Electric Company)
12. Organizer and Director of The Bellevue Land and Improvement Company

Nice event cancel. Of course the Pan American Games were held in 1901, as shown on the obliterator side of the cancel. These were used leading up to the event to advertise it.

My particular & peculiar collecting interest is the many uses to which MRCs (Message Reply Cards) were put in the daily 'mechanical' conduct of commerce.

Thanks, stampcrow; I'm adding this one to the list.

Cheers,

There is a catalog for these cancels. Odds are that is a scarcer one.
