Is this the cracked plate listed for #734, or is it just a plate scratch? If it is not the cracked plate, can anyone show what the cracked plate looks like?

I believe this is a scratch. It is way to straight for a plate crack in my opinion. I believe a plate crack has much more of a ragged appearance. I have lots of gripper cracks in my collection and if someone does not beat me to it I will try and post some examples tomorrow.

Thanks, Peter. I saw an image of the supposed crack in an ebay lot, but it was a poor image, and I could barely see it.

My stamp shows up in this lot (three stamps up and three to the left of the plate number):

Classic Coins, I got interested. I looked at your last ebay lead and I can clearly see the scratch ( or whatever it is ) on three stamps!. I also checked the Scott catalog, and I see that under # 732 they show the location of the gripper cracks. Now why would a "specialized" catalog not show it for this stamp? Maybe somebody will chime in and know what is going on!

Peter

Just checked back on this thread and realized my original image is missing so I'm posting a new image of the plate scratch on #734:
