Here's an interesting flyspecking of Scott 3770: Note how the lettering at the top of the stamp looks bolder on the right stamp than on the left. If you look very carefully at the right side of the right stamp you can tell there is a very minor color shift of the design that touches the white border. As a result, it would seem it gives the stamp the effect of a bolder printing on the top line.

Yes, I can see that the Y of City is directly over top of the corner of the design. Also, that entire heading on the right sits lower. Other places also showing the black is shifted right and down. |

Wt1, The two stamps that you show when you started this thread are different. The letters are of a different thickness, and that has nothing to do with misregistration. There were some thirteen different plates used for this stamp, not counting the original 2003 issue. Back in the years after the stamp was issued, the different style letters was reported in "Coil Line", the journal of the Plate Number Coil Collectors Club. Also, there is a slight difference in the die ( perforation ) of the two stamps. If you look at the lower left start of the perforation, the angle of the incision is sharper on the left stamp.

Thanks for the update. I guess it is one of those issues where the Scott Catalog did not feel such a variety was worthy enough for listing in their catalog. |

Thank you Partime, that is a great post! An update on this stamp may be necessary since I posted four months ago that thirteen different plates were used. There have now been 16 plates used in the printing of this stamp, Scott 3770. Scott 3770a is a tagged error, plate #V21211. Two of the plates are scarce. Plate # V13222 is only known used; 70 used stamps reported, 2 on cover. Plate # V21113 is only known as 6 used stamps. Much scarcer as an upside down Jenny!

Also, don't forget Scott 3770 with P#V12111 (valued at $125 used, as per 2013 Scott Catalog). |

Wt1, I overlooked that one! The Plate Number Coil Collectors Club ( PNC3 ) values list gives the retail price for a used copy as $105.00. On cover $500.00. These are actual prices taken from dealers' price lists. Is Scott undervalueing these coils?
