Hi,I'm sure this isn't a 596 by the looks but I'm not sure what this is,I purchased it off ebay as a 581 to cut up for a template, got it here and it's perf 11,measurements are 19.25 X 22.375.I didn't think to take a picture of the measurements but I've been measuring stamps for 10 years and these numbers are correct.

I just sent it to be looked at but thought I'd get some input here,I don't think it's a 596,too short and it's way to big for a 552 but does have some ink on the back,it's very small dots, not a pattern but about 5 little dots,I spoke to a major stamp dealer who said while not common, the 581's on occasion this can happen.

Very puzzled, maybe fake ,what do you guys think.

This is the ebay picture, sorry I didn't take any pics either.

A Scott # 581 is Perf 10, if it's Perf 11 Scott# 552. Looks like a flat plate printing, scan the back of the stamp when you can.

I sent it to get looked at,it's a bad picture I know, the back looks like a rotary but with 10X magnification there are 5-6 tiny ink-spots,APS Quick ID said a flat plate is'nt 19.25 by 22.375,and yes my measurements are correct.

I think it's fake.

Whatever it is, don't throw it away or mistreat it. It could still be something special. I doubt very much that it is reperfed.

My friend can work a computer better than me and super-imposed a 575 imperf stamp on my image and everything lines up exact,I checked the 575 dimensions and it's 19.25 X 22.25.

Stamp96, like everything told on the other board you're hearing the same here. The design measurement is not the deciding factor, merely one of the criteria. You can send the stamp here for a quick ID that will not put a big dent in the wallet.

Under $6.00 to find out the truth;

Hi,Quick ID said flat plate(which it is 110%).

They can't measure it of course and said if my measurements are correct that it's to big for a 552 stamp.

That's all I have ever said in this post,it's way to big for a 552,that how I got it off ebay advertised as 581,it's large to the naked eye,the fella who listed thought it was big enough to post as a 581.

I'm confused (nothing new really) If it's 100% sure to be a flat plate printing, than how would the image be larger?

I've heard about shrinkage of stamps but not a stretching of flat plate images.

That's what I'm trying to figure out too,I sent it to PSE and will know for sure in 3 weeks or so but I'm here thinking maybe someone knows.

From what I see on the internet the 575 imperforate stamps are 19.25 X 22.25.

It probably a faked perfed 575 ?

#575 is more valuable than a #552...
Why would it be faked that way???
