Sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum originally....

Received this one in the mail yesterday on MY BIRTHDAY on Friday the 13th, full moon and all. I didn't buy it on ebay, but on one of the other venues out there online, and it was listed as a #24, poor condition, for $3.00, so I snatched it up:

Anyways, nice little birthday gift, and it's not a #24, and I didn't have one of these before. So not for you 1c 1857 experts, but what is the type on this one and the Scott Cat number?

Have fun....Ray

Just a guess, but ... trying to decide between types III and IIIa ... after flipflopping between the two, I'll go with type III, Scott #21.

Type IIIa (scott 22). Outer frameline broken either on top or bottom, not both. This one is broken at the top.

And Brian is the winner....and I thought he was just a 1869 expert!!
It is a Type IIIa, #22. I haven't had the time to plate it yet, and the bottom curve is very weak, but even if there is a small break, it wouldn't be evident enough to be a Type III....

And Guy...I thought so too, as a faulty placeholder, not bad for $3..

Thanks to all for the responses...Ray

The law of probability states that I'm bound to get it right now and again ;)

Thanks for the lesson, Ray. The more we see these examples, the better we become at identifying them. Personally, I appreciate the time you put into sharing your collection.

Thank you!

Brian
