Offhand it looks like an offset printing, given that the top of Washington's head is so pale and that the toga rope is so much heavier than the button. I can't tell which type but it's not IV, VI or VII.

"Thanks! hopefully I can hang out more.";

Tipzi;

Welcome! Glad to see you here! We are starting to attract some "big hitters".

Regarding flat plate coils; at the recent course I was co-Instructor at the APS Summer Seminar, I commented to the class that in my opinion, 8 out of every 10 uncertified flat plate coils offered are fake. At that, one of the other co-Instructors Clark Frazier (who is more expert than I am when it comes to coils) chimed in "I disagree, I would say it is 9.7 out of 10 are fake"! Granted, we weren't talking about the cheapest ones like #390, for example, but those with a somewhat higher Scott value, but the point is that if a flat plate coil valued at say, over $50. in Scott, does not have a certificate, it is very likely that it is fake.

Tipzi... thank you kindly... I'll scan a single and
a double from this strip to provide a larger image...

I haven't foil tested the strip, so I'll do that as
well and report... but, quite interestingly, all 5
stamps have image offset on the reverse... I've never
seen that with offset stamps... only with flat plate...
I'll post an image of that as well...

Tipzi... I couldn't get large/clear enough scans
onto SCF, so I have them on Photobucket... front
and reverse...

The images are hyperlinked, so you can click on
them to photobucket, then please click on the
magnifier twice for each one to see the large images...

If this strip is not flat plate, then it's a mystery
(to me) how there could be the offset from another
sheet on them... any idea?

Obverse

Reverse

Oops... my reply yesterday was for the block, which is the offset. I didn't see the strip. The strip of five is flat plate and you are right about the set-off on back. These are great examples of the full Type I, and in a color closer to the #409. I don't think they are Type Ia, but I'd need to see a larger image to be absolutely sure.

Hi, Tipzi... thanks for looking...
yes, I was fairly certain of the strip
being flat plate...

Please click on the image then click
the magnifier twice that comes up
which will give you a fairly large
image... and if that's not sufficient,
please let me know and I'll enlarge
it...

Tipzi,

That was a neat Blackish Violet, I noticed it was the highest number in the census so I assumed it was recently located.

Nice find!

P.S. I did a full analysis of the block,
including foil test (failed of course),
it's a 534 Ty Va (4 dot row on the nose)

Tpizi, I know you won't let anything stop your home from being completed. Once your in it, all those trials will be behind you. I'll be in touch in a few weeks or so...still looking forward to some training.
