I doubt that is laid or ribbed paper. Rather the soft paper of this issue gives a very mottled appearance when held to light which I think you are mistaking for laid. To be true laid paper, the lines in the paper must be clear when the stamp is immersed in watermark fluid. |

Sorry but I'm not sure why you guys feed this troll. You told him it was soft paper but he is not one to listen. So what did he do ? he listed it on ebay as laid paper with an asking price of $1,5000,000.00, yes, 1.5 million. Coin watcher, I hope someone bans you from this site. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1870-71-UNK...em3f38b35deeI doubt it's worth $1 in that condition, but 1.5 million ? Give me a break. |

It looks like what can be called horizontal wove paper. Laid paper would have somewhat more pronounced lines and less of them. Also, the lines would be straight connected across and not slightly broken off from each other. Someone should post a copy of the same stamp that shows the same kind of paper here. |

coinwatcher - You should delete this stamp from ebay immediately. You give stamp dealers a bad name by listing a piece of crap stamp not worth 2 cents for an absurd amount. |

The worst part is he has no clue who answered his question above. Yet he adamantly denies any false listings or deceptive practices as can be seen here. https://goscf.com/t/37873He has no ethics whatsoever and threatens our future resources here by doing things like this. We are very fortunate to have people like Bill Weiss, Sinclair, Tipzi, The revenue collectors and many others that take time out of their lives to share their knowledge which they have accumulated from years of study and research. If they see that this knowledge they share is used for things like this you have to ask yourself if you would keep feeding the very things you stand against ? |

Coinwatcher, It seems to me that you are just intentionally messing with kevin504 and stallzer but independent from your 'fun' I have to say that this listing is lame. What you are doing is not good for the hobby, this forum, and ultimately your reputation.
Of course you can ask any price you want for anything; but describing this item as laid paper is not only misleading but deceptive. Please at least consider revising your ad to address this part of your description.
I'll make this offer for you. Send this stamp to Bill Weiss for a certification. If it is indeed a laid paper I will cover the entire cost of the cert, you will pay nothing for the cert and end up with something that you can sell with a clear conscious. Of course if it turns out to not be laid paper you will have to put your money where your mouth is, but surely since you are confidence enough to list it as laid paper this should not be any concern for you. Sound fair? Don

THANK YOU STALLZER!! I seldom "yell" (caps) on any forum but you echo my own thoughts, so either you are losing it or I was thinking correct from the get go! Coinwatcher should be ashamed of himself. I apologize for this obtuse post. -Jeffrey |

But is this the attention to bring yourself? I apologize to all for my rant above but I can't edit it, the time limit expired. I come here to read and learn from a lot of the members here and it's things like this that chase these members away. I don't think the seller is a burr under my saddle intentionally since many of his silly listings began before I ever pointed them out, |
