You are all right. I should not jump to conclusions so quickly. I am going to remove the listing and get the stamp expertised before I sell it.

I'll admit, I responded simply for the amusement factor.

I mean, come on, we all knew where this was going.

"Hi, is this a rare and valuable stamp?

Responses by experienced collectors and even a well respected expertizer: "no, damaged common stamp"

"OK, I'll list it on ebay for a bazillion dollars"

Curious, anyone interested in a 107k mile 2006 Jaguar XJ8? I'll let it go for $25 million.

Have you somehow mistaken this by hearing about the old Canadian 2 cents rare stamp with laid paper?

What you are observing on your two cent is an effect called "paper mesh." Let's compare that to an example of true laid paper on the 2c vermilion Bank Note.

It's not pretty, but here's an example of the laid paper variety for #178.

You can compare the lines here with what you are seeing on your stamp. To understand the effect you are seeing on your stamps. let me recommend an article in the 1979 American Philatelic Congress Book (#45) by Lowell Cooper, "Some Notes Concerning Paper and Paper Mesh With Focus Upon the Bank Notes."
