Yeah what's wrong with people? He only wanted a little more than double cat. for a poorly centered, several short perfs, copy in very average condition.

Having a part imprint does make it a more desirable stamp to many collectors, they are not all that common. It might not be worth double cat but it is far from the junk that is being implied here.

After the debacle with the cleaned and regummed #13 that he listed I'd have a hard time trusting any of his listings.

I agree with tossing out the catalog when it comes to imprint copies. people like myself will pay over CV for a nice clean piece, they don't come around that often. In this case I just think the starting price was more than I'd be willing to fork out for that particular piece, although I'd like to see it after it's had a bath.

I am somewhat concerned with the shadow that is apparent between the stamp design and the imprint; on the reverse photo in particular it appears to possibly have been added. Or at least repaired.

Any flyspeckers out there? This is out of my limited experience, but since the position on the plate is known, might it not be possible to compare to known good imprint examples looking for a match just to be sure that the imprint belongs? Probably not worth the effort, really, but it's what some philatelists love to do.

Although I've never heard of someone adding in imprint text to a Stamp, I can't say that it would be impossible either. A nice soaking will either clean some of it up or separate it into pieces. Duncan, a perforated copy can come from 11 of the 12 plates used, the only plate that had no perforated issues is Plate 1 early condition. It is plateable but since it's not mine I'm not going to look into it.

Duncan....
YES...the imprint is from a 1c Franklin.
Did it originate on this stamp???
No way to tell unless you dip it or soak it.
Soaking it might cause it to fall apart.
My opinion....it did not originate.
The design looks cut off @ right. From the back it
looks a shade different on that end.
Again...hard to tell from a scan.
Easy to tell if in person.

Ick. It's not even a nice example. Stained paper, horribly munged perfs, and I agree that if you were to soak this stamp, you'd likely end up with two or more stamp bits.

I've seen better margin capture examples of the 1-cent Franklin, and I don't even collect front of book.

I have been known to pay nice premiums for revenue imprint captures, but this one misses on all cylinders.
