Feels Like Home

A few weeks ago, I was spring cleaning my closets and discovered my stamp collection from when I was a kid. At first, I did not think much of it but as I went through the yellow-stained envelopes that stored my stamps by countries through the decades, I slowly realized what I have been missing. What a wonderful rediscovery!

I immediately dusted the boxes holding these envelopes and started organizing my stamps. I view my stamps in a different light at this time in my life. I've been to some places pictured in the stamps. I now know who the people are pictured in the stamps, well, at least most of them. As a child, I learned so much from my stamps. Now, I continue to learn more.

Although I collected stamps from all over when I was a kid, for my reincarnated collection, I decided to collect USA stamps focusing on 1960s to present, UK stamps (still haven't decided what to focus on but I think I should at least add the Penny Black to my collection, right?) and Philippine stamps. I also decided to focus on topicals – butterflies and tennis.

So there it is. A journey that I started when I was a kid, temporarily came to a stand for unknown reasons, has now embarked on a bigger and more rewarding journey that will hopefully take me to my last stop wherever that may be with fluttering butterflies and a smile on my face.

It's great to see stamps and covers (envelopes) and postmarks / cancels from a different angle.

Just collecting pretty stamps and cancels now gets me into so much trouble.

What a beautiful post! I collected stamps, the World also, when I was in the Army stationed in the Canal Zone which traverses the country of Panama.

I too have significantly narrowed my collecting field to Canal Zone (wonder why? LOL), early US including Revenues and the like, EFO's and BOB's in general.

About butterflies. During basic training, 1962, in the hottest and balmiest July & August that I had ever experienced, marching in formation, having just come from receiving a bunch of shots, I was feeling really sick and dizzy when lo and behold, a beautiful butterfly landed on my right thumb which helped cradled the butt of the rifle! I said thank you Lord.

I was, however, quite disappointed and despondent when the butterfly departed. Again, lo & behold, in about two blocks, that same (?) butterfly landed on the same thumb!! That really cheered me up. The butterfly stayed there for about two minuets and then few off. Again, I said, thank you Lord!
