I've not seen these before. Very nice!! Looking at the over print price on all three is exactly double the amount of the original, is this true for all Shanghai China overprints?
I guess it's not polite to ask how much was paid for the three, but how about this... Does anyone know how much the Scott Catalog price is for these or are they even IN the Scott Catalog?
Thank you for sharing, lovely! SueStamps |

Hi, Mike... thank you kindly...
I was looking at some Guams, but also read there are alot of fake overprints out there... that's not to say, of course, there aren't any Shanghai's (or others for that matter) so, at best, it's a coin toss...
I would reckon anyone can order a rubber stamp with just about anything, nowadays... no questions asked...
When my 2 new ones arrive, I'm sending all 3 to Weiss for a peek...

Hi, Sue... I paid just under 1 Benjamin Franklin for all 3... And, yes... they're listed in Scott every year... just look in the index in the front of your Scott for the page number... depending upon the year, usually between pages 385 and 390... Randall |

Kevin... I didn't check Scott, but I see both the 1¢ and 2¢ denominations in Times in many listings, all (not) "Cts"... perhaps they were done both ways... |

just checked Scott... apparently there was a 2 stamp series in 1922 of just the 1 and 2 cent done in Ariel... was not aware of that... thank you for your mention... |

Thanks Guys I am now officially overwhelmed. I inherited a collection from my 95 year old neighbor and most was her dad's. I told her I used to collect as a kid (30 years ago) I received 4 huge boxes (20x20x20) full of stamps from all over and torn off envelopes and still full envelope with stamps. her Dad was the international banker in St. Paul, MN and kept every stamp for her, including what I am assuming military people sending paycheck to the bank. Now after seeing this post I have to look for cancelations from foreign country's on US stamps. What else do I need to know????? right now I am in a big sorting mode, just digging through the boxes, and I'll keep breaking it down to colors, then Cents then the photo. and now Perf's, variation in colors. OH MY But it is fun and finding some really good stuff. thanks Diane |

Happy hunting Diane; these are not cancellations on US stamps though, but offically santioned overprints for US post offices overseas. All the major European powers maintained such offices in the early 20th century, as did the US. |

Lovely overprints. I only have one in my collection, one of the lower values. Regarding the fonts, Arial was designed by Monotype Typography in 1982 and shipped with all versions of Windows. Arial many times a substitute for Helvetica, designed in 1957. All are based on earlier versions of Gothic or Grotesque font families. The image below is from my 1906 American Type Founders catalog. |
