On the subject of FDCs. I'd rather have an unofficial FDC. To find a nice 'actual use' cover that happens to be a first day... how cool is that? The official FDCs are made to order, basically made just to be collected. As many of them aren't addressed they've obviously never been through the mail. Alot of them are striking and I understand why they're so collectable. I guess for me, if I'm going to have a cover, I want the stamp to have done it's job! Does that make sense to anybody besides me???

sara,
thank you. Most of my covers do come back through the mailstream. I do however have them returned inside a glassine cover with my address on the outside. When I first started requesting postmarks a few years ago I addressed the actual cover and had it returned without a protective covering. I few came back damaged and my handwriting it terrible, that detracted from the appeal of the overall cover. I decided then that I liked the look of an unadressed cover. I do add addressed covers to my collection, especially the older ones.

I postmarked my "super combo maximum cards" yesterday and about 11 more covers. Thanks to all whom sent me some of their dupes for the cards. It was very tedious work determining placement and then licking and sticking. I still haven't rounded up my older nonaddressed 150th anniversray and other Lincoln FDC's to have combo'd with a 200th anniversary postmark & stamp. Plus I ran out of Lincoln stamps & money! I hope to scan and post more soon, I am very behind on that. Life keeps getting in the way of my hobby. LOL

These just showed up from Cali. Fresh from the soaking wet and cold postman's hand.

Apparently from the insert there was a 5th cachet for the show that depicted a log cabin with all 4 stamps on the cover. Now I'll have to request that 1 for the complete set.

See I told you there would be more to come.
