Just wondering if there is a consensus of opinion as to post pictures directly here on SCF or have a link to a web hosting site?
Personally, I enjoy the pictures being posted here on SCF.

I agree. Sometimes when you use a web hosting site the pictures might get dropped after a while. Then one might as well not post any pictures! Just my opinion,

Post them here, so here they remain.
Some of the older posts on SCF now have broken links because members left and/or deleted their photobucket accounts.

I'm surprised this isn't a poll.
I generally don't see a need to post images elsewhere. I've never had a problem posting whatever I want to this site. On a few occasions I would have liked more linear size to the image, but generally I can get the image details as large as I want.
Some folks seem to be struggling to understand the formatting requirements for posting images to this website. It's really quite simple:
THE FILE SIZE OF THE IMAGE MUST BE BELOW 100k BYTES.
Do anything you like for dpi, original resolution, image size, colors and edits, whatever, but in the final save the file must be below 100k bytes.
The other thing to remember is that some large images will appear smaller when posted to a thread, but if you remember to click an image you can view it full size in a pop up window.

Photobucket is FREE. I have hundreds and hundreds of Stamps & Covers uploaded in photobucket @ 1200 dpi and haven't even come remotely close to using up my allotted space. The images will have better detail for finding varieties and other fine points. The object is to leave them in photobucket and not move them around. |

To show good details, you sometimes need an image larger than 100k bytes. Many times I get tired of continually re-sizing an image to get below 100k and just find it easier to use an image host. |

Nice feedback everyone. It appears that there are both pros and cons on both side of this questions.
I am definitely with Jenny2U on the need to resize and resize until the pic is at or below 100K.
It also seems there is a need for people to keep up their Photobucket or other "keep places" in order to make sure there is a viable link to their pics.
If the site monitor agrees that this should be a "Pole", could you please move this there? |
