I was going through some old stock tonight and came across this stamp. I have it labeled as a #68 but am wondering if this might be a candidate for a 62B? I know the odds are very slim - Any thoughts or input is much appreciated. Harry

I don't trust color reproduction online, but on my screen your image appears to be more yellow green than deep green. But at the Siegel site some of the 62B items are not as deeply green as others. On the other hand, the heavy curved line below the stars that I DO see on other 68s, which is very subdued on 62Bs (contra Scott), is also subdued on yours. The definitive feature, the added line above the central frame ornaments at top is disrupted by a perforation hole on your example. At that rate, if it were mine I'd send it to Bill Weiss for a preliminary opinion, and if he gives it a green light I'd send it to the PF. But the color needs to be noticeably deeper than a yellow green. |

I agree that the color is not the typical deep dark green but I don't think there is any question that the stamp is a 62B. |

I'm with essayK here.
Color is too light but a) It's a scan on the internet and B) god knows what the poor thing has been through in the past 153 years.
Design looks correct, namely the line under the stars is not recut and the shading around the upper stars is also much deeper than you see on a 68.
Looks good to me, now get a cert for it. |

I am intrigued by the "ht, b" on the paper stuck to the reverse, and why the type isn't reversed. If it was on a cover or in an album, and the stamp was poorly lifted, then I would expect the letters to be reversed. So this lettering came from the inside of whatever this specimen was on. Guessing an album, and it got stuck to the paper, and someone botched its removal.
Hard to tell from the scan, and I am no paper expert, but the paper does not look vintage 1850s. |

It does appear so. I don't like blue green ink and I think that stuff on the back could be just a simple adhesion, like from being stored in a book or something? At any rate I wouldn't let that stop me from sending it to Bill for his opinion! Best of wishes to you! |

Color is definitely not typical for 62B, but otherwise, it certainly looks like a genuine 62B! |
