Based on completed auctions it doesn't look like that stamp is worth more than a couple of hundred dollars at the most.

Are you refering to the CSA #11???

Sorry, kevin504 is right. CSA #11. Worth maybe $15. If it had colored lines or even parts of lines on 3 sides near the edge of the stamp paper, then it would be worth a lot more.

Did you get a buzz when you learned that it might be valuable? If so, maybe stamp collecting is for you.

There are many rare variations of stamps that take a good amount of time to learn to identify. It isn't worth it to pay someone to look at each individual stamp and look for rarities. It's a loosing bet. Stamp collecting is mostly relaxing, but sometimes you'll find something that could be rare and valuable. It's kind of like scratch off lotto tickets in a way.

Every collector of stamps does it for different reasons. Some like the beauty of the artwork. Some love collecting every variety. Some get good enough to do it as a career as a trader. I like it for all of the above including learning about the history of how they were used.

Regardless of this experience, I would take chasa's advice and take it to a stamp dealer or preferably an experienced collector to take a look before you sell it. It can't hurt you other than delay you putting it up on ebay again a few weeks later.

At least you learned that not every stamp in the collection you have is worth pennies.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do,
Ryan

Well, the auction is about to end so I will just let it ride. I actually collect vintage drums so I totally understand the satisfaction/rush you can get from finding something rare and valuable. I just wanted to get some opinions. There is a place close by to me (In Jenkintown PA) called Edelman's Coins and Stamps. I will probably bring the rest of the collection by their store before listing it for sale. Thanks everyone for your input.

Also, this may be a dumb question, but what is the best way to ship a collection like this? I was thinking of placing the pages and extra stamps between two pieces of cardboard and then putting them in a padded envelope or making a thin box.

You got a lot more money for it than many of the posters here assumed that it would be worth. That tells me that your images of it showed that there are some valuable stamps in you album. Did you get "ripped off"? From what I know, no you didn't. To determine the true value of your album going into the details of each stamp would cost much more than the $215 dollars that you sold it for. Looking for rarities is time consuming and difficult.

You posted here looking for advice well after you were committed to honoring the sale on ebay. Regardless of the album's potential value, you made a commitment to sell it at auction and you got a price much higher than most "beginner" albums which many posters here deemed it to be.

Hopefully someone will chime in on how to best ship it.

The best way to ship it would be to use a USPS PRIORITY
flat rate box... you can get them free in the lobby of
most any post office...

The longer flatter types are MEDIUM FLAT RATE BOX and
LARGE FLAT RATE BOX... and, if you sold your stamps on
ebay, you can print the shipping label from ebay, and
it will automatically charge your Paypal account for
the shipping amount...

This link will help you decide which is best...

Yeah, I should have posted here earlier. I did have the option of ending the auction early but decided not to. Thanks again.
