Having trouble determining if these are real or fake. The 1st one is supposed to be #6 & is hard thin paper, the 2nd one #7 thicker, softer paper. Can anyone help?

Both stamp are real.

The best of the fakes, the New York Counterfeit, has a dot in the upper left star not found on the genuine stamps. Also the frame line is thicker on the NY counterfeit and the color is unlike the genuine stamps. See below.

While a healthy skepticism is always good, most Confederate stamp forgeries are relatively crude and thus rather obvious. The New York counterfeit in this case is one of the exceptions but even so has a clear distinguishing mark. To assume fakes as a default judgment is a bit of overkill.

http://www.jlkstamps.com/fakes/fakecsa.htm is helpful.

As pointed out they're both genuine. the seperatti forgeries would be your only worry but they look genuine to me, JMO Respectfully -Jeff

on the subject of crude and obvious, see these what I think are Springfield or TASCO CSAs. They all have facsimile stamped on the back. The red 10c towards the bottom is an "altered plate" reprint. These all came in a recent purchase. interesting.

Yes, they are Springfield or TASCO facsimiles. The alter plate was also printed by the Tatham Stamp & Coin.
