I know nearly nothing yet about grill types, but I do know that your images are way too small to determine anything.

Welcome and please crop your photos/scan so that we can actually see them. It takes a bit of practice to learn to post images that show what you are trying to explain.

Hi, Doc... welcome to the forum... lots and lots
of knowledgeable people here to help you... thanks
for your first posting...

The image of the reverse of your stamp is too small
and not focused enough to make out any grill detail...

If you are able, please re-scan at 1200dpi, and use
your focus tool in your software to present as clear
an image as possible...

Adding a bit of graphite to the back of the stamp will help bring out the grill much better and will not hurt the stamp.
Simply use a small pencil sharpener to make yourself a small pile of black graphite. Dip a Q-tip (some folks use their finger but be careful) in the graphite and gentled rub it across the grilled area on the back of the stamp. Do not press hard, the idea is to simply have the graphic highlight the grill points.
When done, the best idea is to leave the graphite on the stamp and not try to remove it. It helps future hobbyists and won't hurt the stamp or its value.

Scan the stamp after you do this and folks here might be able to tell which grill type it is.
Don

If you scan the back at 1200 dpi you should be able to get an image similar to this.

It is an "E" grill (Scott #88).

Bill,

Were you responding to Stallzer's example image (which is an E) or the original (which I can't make out)?

essayk; you are right - senior moment - I was responding to stallzer's image - which is an "E". The new image by doc is an "F".
